Blockbuster- Thank You!

I have been highly disappointed to see a large quantity of Movie Gallery stores close up shop. I loved going in to the video store and browsing to find that perfect movie. I am in a small town and there aren’t a lot of choices now. Plus I live about 10 miles outside city limits so making a trip to town to not find a good movie, is um… lame.

I did my spin with Netflix. They are a good company; fast, available, and have the ability to let me watch instant movies. The only thing is, the titles aren’t up to date. Netflix doesn’t carry New Releases. So eventually I was stuck watching 20 movies I had already seen. Boring.

Two days ago I decided to check out Blockbuster online. I am so glad I did. I browsed their site and decided to sign up for their FREE 2 week trial. I choose the 3 at a time option and created my account. I was required to add a credit card (obviously they will need this if the movies aren’t returned) but was not charged a red cent. Nice! The 3 at a time option allows me to check out up to 3 movies or games at a time. No due date and no late fees. I just checked my mail and there they were. I was so surprised because just two days ago I created an account. I am very pleased with how fast they arrived at my door. Only nice feature I found was the in store exchange. Blockbuster allows you to see if the movie you want is available and the store and you can pick it up there. You can also exchange the movies you have at home for in store movies at no extra cost. Now we are talking! It’s too bad that I am not close to a Blockbuster store because I would become a regular visitor. However, I think ordering my movies online with no due dates will work out perfectly.

Big thanks to Blockbuster. You outdid yourself. Now I am going to enjoy A Christmas Carol with the kids, watch Predators with the husband, and then unwind with a good chick flick, Charlie St. Cloud. Thanks so much for fast, premium service!

Best Bread

Image via allrecipes.comMy neighbor was nice enough to give me a Magic Chef bread machine. I have wanted one for a while but didn’t want to fork out the cash for it. Well now that I have one, I have been experimenting with it and all kinds of bread recipes. I made some excellent banana bread very easily but didn’t have as much luck with basic white bread. I came out good tasting and edible but the crust just wasn’t as good as I thought it could be. I used my cook books and the magic chef instruction booklet to reference for recipes and still didn’t get it the way I wanted it. I finally decided to look online and found by searching Google: recipe for bread machine bread. does allow site membership but it wasn’t required. I also hand my hands full with supper when I submitted my search for the bread recipe. Within 60 seconds of searching, I found their site and the link took me directly to the right page and I was able to scribble it down, throw it in the bread machine, and resume supper. Thank goodness it was easy to find the recipe and get supper down all in one go! I have bookmarked and will be using it frequently. If you need a quick solution to a meal check out! By the way, the bread was perfect!

Helpful Resources

I can still remember back in 2005 when my doctor found my heart murmur at a regular check up. I was scared and knew very little about heart conditions. I was sent right away to the hospital to have an echocardiogram and ekg. I was then sent to Des Moines, Iowa to undergo stress tests and was put on a heart monitor to keep track of my heart rate and rhythms. It was all very scary to me. It is hard to understand Heart Conditions if you have never had one. I was relieved to finally know what was causing all of my symptoms I was having. I had no clue what was going on. In my experience, it is very hard to get a doctor to be frank. It just doesn’t seem to happen. They talk in circles and I am unable to understand half of it.

I have found a lot of helpful resources online over the last few years. To be honest, at times, they have been more helpful than talking to a doctor. Mayo Clinic is one that I visit often. It is very easy to navigate and find resourceful information about my condition. I was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse with left Ventricular hypertrophy. Big words, big scare, and equal side effects. It’s a nightmare sometimes. I found out from the May Clinic that

Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) occurs when the valve between your heart’s left upper chamber (left atrium) and the left lower chamber (left ventricle) doesn’t close properly. When the left ventricle contracts, the valve’s flaps bulge (prolapse) upward or back into the atrium. Mitral (MIE-truhl) valve prolapse sometimes leads to blood leaking backward into the left atrium, a condition called mitral valve regurgitation.

A lot of it seemed confusing to me at first, but it didn’t take long to understand my condition and navigate through the Mayo Clinic to see the whole picture.

The Mayo Clinic states…

In most people, mitral valve prolapse isn’t life-threatening and doesn’t require treatment or changes in lifestyle. Some people with mitral valve prolapse, however, require treatment.

I, myself, have only been treated with Advil to control my heart rate. The doctors believe that I could use a beta blocker for my tachycardia, but it is ultimately up to me because sometimes the side effects of the medication can be worse than the effects of the actual disease. The beta blockers will lower my heart rate but also will lower my blood pressure which happens to drop already. A dangerous situation that I have decided to avoid for now.

Thanks to the Mayo Clinic online I have been able to better understand my disease. I use it for resource anytime I am feeling sick or experiences overwhelming side effects. It has been a great resource and I wanted to share it with anyone who has a heart condition or for other with diseases they do not understand.

If you have Mitral Valve Prolapse please visit the Mayo Clinic.

Shop for Freebies

Shop for Freebies is a website that has a handful of things like samples, free site registrations, and coupons. Everything is 100% free. I signed up and you should too! Try new items before you buy them. I chose stuff like shaving cream, vitamins, tampons, shampoo, energy drinks, stickers, etc. There is a handful of stuff!

The site is very simple to navigate. Visit Shop for Freebies and you will be brought to a live page of the latest Freebies. On the left side bar you can navigate to each category you are looking for. Categories to choose from… (more at the site)

There is a lot of stuff. Last night I went through and requested over 20 free samples. All I had to do was enter some information like name, address, email and that was it! No credit cards. Everything really is free! How does it work? You search the site and when you see an item you would like to request, click grab this now. You are then taken to the site of the Sample provider and you usually have to register with their company online by providing an email address for them to send newsletters to. That’s it! You can then close that page and continue looking for other samples. Like I said, I requested over 20 samples last night from companies that are well-known. I get to try products before I go out and buy them and I love that!
I did just request all of my samples last night and so I have not yet received them. Most companies stated to allow 4-6 weeks for them to arrive. I will post an update once I have or haven’t received my samples. I will give a 2 month follow-up to let you know how timely I received them.
I love Shop for Freebies! It is a great, well designed site that is simple to navigate and use. They also have a forum, FAQ page, and a page for hunting freebies and tips. Now what are you waiting for? Go get your Freebies!
