Spa Treatments #4

On the last Spa Treatments, we discovered how to get baby soft feet with lemons and sugar. Now, be prepared to have arms and legs that are touchably smooth! All you will need is almonds and yogurt.

“The yogurt feels cool and soothing, while the nubby texture of the almonds massages your skin,” says Anushka Spa in West Palm Beach, Florida. Bonus: Both of the ingredients exfoliate, revealing soft skin!

Here’s how to do it!

1. Mix 1/4 cup crushed almonds into 2-3 Tbs. yogurt until smooth yet still thick.

2. Massage all over damp legs and arms, paying special attention to your elbow and knees.

3. Rinse and pat dry.

Yields: 1 application.

Thank you so much for joining me for our Spa Treatments. Now get out there and pamper yourselves! Coming next week: 5 ways to Reduce Stress!

Spa Treatments #3

Image via Google Images Looking for more ways to pamper yourself? I always am. And these days that can get very expensive. That is exactly why I am sharing information that I read on easy, non expensive ways to pamper yourself right from home.

Do you want super-lustrous hair? Did you know that massaging your scalp with warm oil eases anxiety and smooths your hair so it looks shiny and glossy? Yes! It really does according to Daniel Krasofski, director of spa services at One Spa in L.A.

Here’s how to do it!

1. Heat up a few tablespoons of sesame, sweet almond or olive oil- it should be warm, but comfortable to the touch.

2. Before a shower, dip your fingers into the oil, and start massaging at the nape of the neck. Continually redipping, cover your entire scalp, moving up to your hairline.

3. Place a towel around your head and relax for 20 minutes.

4. In the shower, add shampoo directly to hair (do not get it damp first)- this allows the shampoo to breakdown the oil so it will wash away easily. Later and rinse.

Yields: 1 application

That’s it! Another easy way to pamper yourself, relax, and great some great looking hair! Stay tuned for more Spa Treatments from Eat, Love, Shop.

30 Day Memoirs- The tale of a picture #1

Fresh Color... Thanks Revlon!

Today I will be starting a 30 Day Memoir section on my blog. Each day I will post a new picture to tell a tale. Exciting right? Of course! What better way to start than with my latest change? Out with the old and in with the new. Hair that is! I usually keep my hair two tones. A sun bliss blond in the spring and summer and then a deeper brown in the fall and winter. Thanks to Revlon, dying my hair always affordable and is easy as pie. Every fall I use Revlon Color Silk in Dark Brown (30) and it comes out looking great with all over coverage and it’s inexpensive which makes me even happier!

The Thrill of Brazil

No, that's not my hand. Image via Opi

No, I am not talking about the real Brazil! I am talking about Opi Nail Color. It is a bright red that is hot and tempting! I am familiar with Opi Nail Color from numerous visits to the Nail Salon. I have always loved the color tones and the long wear of it. The Thrill of Brazil is my first Opi Nail Color I have had at home. The closest place that I can purchase it is 46 miles away or opt for the online option. I have two colors now but I have only tried my Red and I really love it!

The color goes on thick and really only needs one coat, however I did two to make it last longer. I wore my Opi polish on my nails and toes and it lasted about a week before it began peeling away. It is very long-lasting. I don’t have any complaints about my Opi polish at all. It’s a great polish and I am completely happy with and recommend to all the ladies! Just one bit of information that may be helpful… do not use one of the nail polish removers in a jar. You know the kind that has the sponge inside and you roll your fingers in it to remove the polish. It did take my polish off, but the polish stained my sponge and stained my fingers bright pinkish red. I had to then use another polish remover with cotton to get all of that off. So, just a tip so that you do not do the same.

Opi has a large variety of colors and they have a very unique website where you can actually look at each color and change the skin tone and nail length of the hand. You are going to want to check that out for sure!

Beyonce’s Red

I am not much of the lipstick wearing kind. I usually stick to a balm or gloss with only light nude shades. Of course all of us want to look great in bright red lipstick, especially something as appealing as Beyonce’s Red, but the truth is… it just doesn’t work for everyone. Regardless, I wanted to try L’Oreal Paris infallible LipColour. You can see the commercials and well known Beyonce wearing it and making the lip colour look amazing.

It comes in a small rectangular, silver case. Inside the case there are  two parts; step 1 and step 2. Step 1 is your lip color in whatever shade you may choose and Step 2 is the lip conditioner. The back of the case does have instructions on how to apply it and keep it looking good and they are simple to follow.

Step 1: Apply a thin layer of lip colour to clean lips. For best results, allow to dry for 2 minutes.
Step 2: Apply the conditioning balm to seal colour and provide a natural shine.

To Remove: use an oil based makeup remover.

You get 2.3 ml of Lip Colour and 2.4 g of Conditioning Balm.

The packaging is really neat, original and get this… you can remove the back label and there is a mirror to apply it. It’s everything needed for applying lip colour anytime needed.

Overall I love the design of the lip colour, the bright shade, the condition, and the bonus mirror on the back is wonderful too. The shade doesn’t match my skin tone so I am giving it to my sister. She likes deep tones unlike myself, I prefer the nudes. No matter, how badly I want to wear red lipstick… I just can’t. It doesn’t look good on me. I think this lip colour is great for anyone with dark skin tones. Maybe if I were more tan it would look good on me? Regardless, it is a great product and I recommend it. I mostly enjoy the packaging. Everything is bundled together in one neat little box. As for wearing time, it’s great! As a matter of fact, you will have to fight to get it off. Don’t worry about this lip colour fading. It isn’t going to happen. I wore it all day and not a bit of it rubbed off. It does have to be removed with an oil based makeup remover. Or your lips will remain red. So it is really long lasting, neatly packaged, and great for dark skin tones.

I recommend  picking up L’Oreal Paris infallible LipColour. You will love the whole design of the product and adore the long lasting colour.

The Hair Academy of Kirksville Missouri

Beauty Shop

The Hair Academy 110 is located on Franklin Street in small town Kirksville, Missouri. It is a school of beauty that one can either attend to obtain their cosmetology License or to get hair cuts, dyes, manicures, pedicures, etc for a fraction of the cost. The Hair Academy has low prices on everything because your work is done by a student. I have been to the Hair Academy multiple times over the last 3 years. I have only had one bad experience out of all the times I have been there. I enjoy going there because I have students that know all the latest trends and discount pricing. I usually get the “works.” The works is a hair cut, style, and eyebrow wax for only $10! That is a great price! I love doing this because then I usually tip my stylist another $10 or $15 and they are like super happy!

The only downfall to the whole visit is that it is very time-consuming. You must remember that they are students and even though they may be nearing the end of the classes, they still don’t have the pace as say a stylist that has been cutting for 10 years. When I go get my hair cut, depending on the student they give me, I am usually there for an hour and a half. I know it seems like a lot for a cut and wax. It just depends on what you are looking for. I love the price cut and I get the opportunity to help locals. So that is why I visit. The service is great and everyone is really friendly there.

Overall I really like the Hair Academy and will continue going there and the price is hard to beat. Actually, I am pretty sure they are the lowest price in town. I always come out with a smile on my face even when I just have a trim. The students are well-trained and very friendly.
